The origins of the Triumph brand date back to 1885, when Siegfried Bettmann, a German-born businessman living in Great Britain, started a bicycle import and sales business under his own brand, Bettmann & Co., which later became Triumph.

He later partnered with another German, Moritz Schulte, and they founded Triumph Cycle Co. Ltd, beginning the production of their first bicycles. It was not until 1902 that they started producing their first motorcycles, initially using engines from other companies, and later in 1907 developing their own engines.

By 1930, producing both motorcycles and automobiles, the company was renamed Triumph Motor Company. In 1936, facing financial difficulties, it sold to its competitor Ariel Motorcycles. The motorcycle division, which became Triumph Engineering Co Ltd., continued manufacturing two-wheeled vehicles until 1983, when it closed due to economic problems.

In 1984, the company was re-established as Triumph Motorcycles Ltd. by John Bloor, who had purchased the brand rights. He implemented new working methods inspired by Japanese work philosophy and equipped the company’s plant with state-of-the-art machinery.

The brand has stood out for developing new motorcycles with modern technology while maintaining strong design inspiration from its classic models, especially in the range they call Modern Classic. Anyone familiar with the world of two wheels will easily recognize them when they come across one.
