The origins of the Suzuki brand date back over a century in Japan, specifically to 1909, when it was founded by Michio Suzuki, initially dedicated to manufacturing looms. Later, in the early 1950s, they designed and built a small auxiliary motor for bicycles, which was the most commonly used vehicle in Japan at the time, achieving great success.

Motorcycle production began in 1954 with their first motorcycle, equipped with a 90cc single-cylinder engine, named the Colleda.

Suzuki arrived in Spain in the late 1980s by acquiring the motorcycle company Avelló, known for producing iconic bikes such as the Puch, MV Avello, and MV Agusta. Avelló became Suzuki Motor España and manufactured motorcycles in Spain at the Porceyo plant (Gijón) for 20 years, until production finally ceased in 2013.

Today, the Japanese multinational Suzuki is primarily engaged in the manufacture of automobiles, including its popular 4x4s, motorcycles, and boat engines.

Suzuki has won the Motorcycle World Championship six times when the premier class was the 500cc category, with legendary riders such as the American Kevin Schwantz. Currently, Suzuki competes in the Motorcycle World Championship with its Team Suzuki Ecstar, which won the MotoGP World Championship in 2020 with Spanish rider Joan Mir.
